A family in Chico, California wanted to fill their three empty wall niches with some color and life. I love jobs like this where I have a little wiggle room for color choices and design. The Spanish feel of the wall and patio made me think of the colorful fabric molas of Panama. I looked up a few mola images online, and I'm happy to report the family liked my designs. I came up with a bird, a gecko, and a dog. In the slideshow you will see the designs I submitted to compare with the finished product. I hand made some tiles for the project, such as the eyes for all three animals, and leaves and polka dots. I bought authentic mexican talavera tiles to border all three of them and in the dog niche I used green stained glass for a grassy backdrop.
